Hume City Council

Hume City Council is the local council for Craigieburn, on the Craigieburn line, in Melbourne’s north. The council’s office is in Broadmeadows. Hume describes itself as two urban corridors: one around Sunbury, and one running north along the Hume Freeway through Broadmeadows, Roxburgh Park, Craigieburn, and the newer areas of Mickleham and Kalkallo. Melbourne Airport sits between them.

At the 2021 Census the Australian Bureau of Statistics counted 243,901 people usually living in Hume. The median age was 33, against 38 for Victoria. There were 83,928 private dwellings, with 3.1 people per household on average. The median weekly household income was $1,703, the lowest of the councils in this directory.

Hume City Council states the municipality as 504 square kilometres. The council says Melbourne Airport occupies about 10 per cent of that area.
