A railway from the central city to Melbourne Airport. The stage now under way does not reach the airport. It rebuilds more than 6 km of the Sunbury line from West Footscray to Albion, including Sunshine station and new stations at Tottenham and Albion.
Victoria’s Big Build says that stage is under way and will be complete in 2030. A February 2026 fact sheet describes a joint Australian and Victorian investment of more than $4 billion for the West Footscray to Albion works. That figure is not a total budget for the line to the airport, so it is not shown as the project cost. Tracks past Albion, and stations at Keilor East and the airport, are later stages.
