Albion
Albion is a suburb in Melbourne’s west, in Brimbank City Council, next to Sunshine. Albion station is on the Sunbury line. It is the northern end of Melbourne Airport Rail stage 1, the West Footscray to Albion upgrade. That stage includes a new station. It does not continue to the airport. The photograph is platform 1 on 19 June 2026, the station that is still there.
The station car park closed on 2 February 2026 for underground drilling and pipe storage, and Big Build said it would stay closed until late 2026. Eight accessible spaces were to remain. In April 2026, boring started on a new jet-fuel pipeline tunnel between Sunshine and Albion so the existing pipe can be moved for the station works.
At the 2021 Census the Australian Bureau of Statistics counted 4,334 people usually living in Albion. The median age was 35. The Victorian median on the same release was 38. There were 2,202 private dwellings, with 2.3 people per household on average. The Victorian figure was 2.5. The median weekly household income was $1,310.
