Footscray
Footscray is a suburb in Melbourne’s inner west, in Maribyrnong City Council. Footscray station is on the Werribee line and the Sunbury line. The Sunbury line continues to West Footscray, where Melbourne Airport Rail stage 1 starts. The cancelled East West Link was a road tunnel proposed between the Eastern Freeway at Clifton Hill and the Western Ring Road, and this is the western suburb named on that project. The photograph is Nicholson Street in April 2008, the shopping strip a block from the station.
At the 2021 Census the Australian Bureau of Statistics counted 17,131 people usually living in Footscray. The median age was 34. The Victorian median on the same release was 38. There were 9,873 private dwellings, with 2.1 people per household on average. The Victorian figure was 2.5. The median weekly household income was $1,763.
